Good day! I hope you’re enjoying this warm but not yet hot day;
Saturdays from now until September 15th, 10am-2pm the Church Closet continues at St. George’s, Echo Bay. If you know of anyone strapped for cash who needs very inexpensive clothing and/or household items, please let them know about this.
There are no Vacation Bible School or similar events for children/youth on the Deanery Event Calendar. If you know of events that are scheduled, please email algomadeanery@gmail.com so that I can let others know what’s going on. Just as importantly, if you have pictures of events that have already occurred, please email them to me. Thanks.
Tuesday, July 3rd is the Holy Day of St. Thomas the Apostle. One of the 12 apostles, the most information we have of him is found in the Gospel of John. He was extremely devoted to Jesus and, of course, the best known incident we know of him is the ‘doubting Thomas’ story. After the death of Jesus, Thomas’ history is sketchy but he is thought to have evangelized Parthia and even into India. He was martyred around 53 A.D. Friday, July 6th is the commemoration of Thomas More, beheaded by King Henry VIII in 1553. More was loyal to Henry and defended the Catholic faith against Luther and other reformers when the Reformation began. He condoned the torture and burning of many ‘heretics’ and supported the supremacy of the Pope over King Henry’s break with Rome – and we all know what Henry did with people who didn’t agree with him or got in his way… https://www.biography.com/people/thomas-more-9414278
